Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
